Hello everyone… This post is for you if you don’t know if your setup is good, bad, or somewhere in between.
It happens every time you address the ball: You’re not sure how far apart your feet should be, where to position your hands, or where to play the ball in your stance. As a result, your swing and your shots are inconsistent to the point where you have no idea where the ball is going from one round to the next.
Lay a magazine on the ground with both covers face up and follow the checkpoints below.
1. Stance width: Take your address with a mid or long iron. Set the instep of your right foot even with the edge of the front cover, and your left instep with the edge of the back cover. This is the perfect stance width for an iron.
2. Hand/Ball Position: Position the ball even with the magazine’s spine and set your hands directly above the spine. You should see a slight lean in the shaft toward the target. Perfect. Also, make sure that your hands are over the bottom edge of the magazine. You don’t want them extended to far away from your body, or too close to it.
3. Posture: Bend from your hips, keeping your back nice and flat until your eyes are over the top edge of the magazine. This will help you settle into the correct posture for an iron. You don’t want your head too far out in front of your toes, nor do you want to address the ball while standing straight up and down.
There you have it, find a magazine to perfect your setup. Remember the first step to shooting lower scores is to nail the basics. Until next time,
